The Energy You Bring Shapes the Room

The Energy You Bring Shapes the Room

Another valuable lessons I learned from Next Step is the power of energy—not just what you say, but how you say it.

In any setting, whether it’s a one-on-one conversation, a small meeting, or a massive convention, energy plays a crucial role. And you can’t bring the same level of energy to every situation—you have to adjust.

  • Small group? A steady, engaging presence works.
  • One-on-one? Too much energy can feel overwhelming, while too little can seem disengaged.
  • Big crowd? You need to match and elevate the energy in the room.

I’ll admit, I learned this lesson the hard way. I remember too many times when I’d step on stage, nerves kicking in, and unknowingly drain the room’s energy instead of lifting it. The audience mirrored me, and suddenly, what should have been an engaging session felt flat.

A mentor once told me something that stuck:

“People can get away with less-than-perfect grammar or even the wrong words—if they say it with passion.”

Of course, accuracy is important, but the way you deliver your message matters just as much. Energy, passion, and presence can transform how people receive your words.

It’s not just about speaking—it’s about making people feel something. And that’s a lesson I carry with me to this day.
