From First Game to Season Ticket Holders: Our Tri-City Tide Adventure 🏀

Hey there, fellow basketball lovers and Moncton newbies! 👋 Let me tell you about how we stumbled into becoming Tri-City Tide fans – and why we’re totally here for it!

The Unexpected Basketball Journey

So picture this: a Filipino immigrant couple in Moncton, looking for ways to connect with the community, when professional basketball literally drops into our laps. 😂 Thanks to a random conversation with a former colleague at the Moncton Hoop Classic last December, I learned about this brand new team representing Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview.

At first? Total meh. Just another random piece of info floating in my social media feed. But then something clicked – Alaine and I both love basketball, we’re always looking to explore our new city, and what better way to meet people than through sports?

Game One: The Rookie Experience

Our first game was… let’s say interesting. 🤪 We accidentally bought tickets on the opponent’s side (rookie move, right?), but Maritime hospitality being what it is, everyone around us was super cool about it.

The Tide lost that first game. And I mean LOST. They looked like a team still figuring out each other’s names, let alone playing styles. Ball movement was about as smooth as my first attempts at Canadian winter driving. But here’s the thing – they tried. Hard. And the home crowd? Absolute legends. Cheering, supporting, believing in their team.

Game Two: The Comeback (Sort Of)

Round two against the Halifax Hoopers was a whole different vibe. Same result (another loss), but SO much closer! The energy in the arena was electric.

The best part? The kids behind us. Watching them cheer, hearing parents explain basketball plays, seeing that pure joy of sports – it was magical. This wasn’t just a game; it was a community moment.

Why We’re All In 🎉

We went from curious newcomers to full-blown season ticket holders. Why? Because it’s not just about basketball. It’s about finding our place in Moncton, connecting with locals, and being part of something bigger.

Next time, I might put on my basketball coaching hat and break down some game strategies. But for now, we’re just enjoying the ride. Or should I say, the Tide? 😉
